about

In the Laundromat EP is a collection of two works by Earl Green (Toby Leman, Jazz Kane). In the Laundromat is a track inspired by symmetry, circular motion and evolution. The imagery of concentric circles provides the basis for a track which flows in repeating rhythms and angular melodies. A diversity of warm and loud instruments intersect with abrasive textures to create a complex cycle of overlapping tensions and releases. The track will be followed by a music video directed by Tom Foy, released through dust.supply. This is an immersive sensory experience with visual accompaniment.

Trackhound parts I & II tell two halves of the same story; the life cycle of racing dogs. Part I is an erratic and overwhelming cascade of rhythmic drive and melodic intensity. The track is designed to evoke the imagery of endless racing with moments of false hope and pointlessness. The use of animal welfare for human monetary gain is the basis of this half, as animal racing is still a protected sport in Aotearoa for little to no apparent reason. Part II tells the aftermath of a life spent racing aimlessly; a funeral march for hounds that now live with trauma and through rehabilitation. There are moments of beauty and sadness in the second half which speak to the companionship of former racing hounds, but ultimately evoke sadness for creatures whose lives were used. The final section of part II mimics the intensity of part I as the cycle inter-generationally repeats.
